The summer has set, and the country is engulfed with more heat waves and humidity than ever. Every Indian is now looking to take a trip to higher altitudes to beat the unbearable heat. Here are some places that you can consider to venture out this summer and after.

Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh

Spiti is a heavenly getaway for all adventure seekers during summer. It is located on the northern side of Ladakh on the Tibet border. The valley is also referred to as the cold desert and is famous for trekking. It has small villages with a population of 200 at maximum. There are beautiful Buddhist monasteries within a few miles, making it the perfect escape for some soul-searching. Spiti is a cold valley, making it the ideal summer destination.

Coorg, Karnataka

Coorg, also known as “The Scotland of India,” is one of the most accessible hill stations in the South of India during summer. People from cities like Bangalore and Chennai can come and spend their weekend at this beautiful place covered in lush green hills and streams that cut into waterfalls. Coorg is famous for its coffee and is sought after for its keen hospitality. This is the perfect escape from the corporate hustle in its welcoming homestays.

Kalimpong, West Bengal

They say Darjeeling is over because of the over-commercialisation. Kalimpong is a small hamlet in the Shivalik range of the Himalayas. This beautiful valley is famous for its panoramic scenery overlooking the Teesta River. The town is neck deep, rich in Bhutanese history, mingled with British rulers with their architectural bungalows and gardens. Kalimpong is a perfect place to get a breather away from the scorching heat of the plains during summer.

Landour, Uttarakhand

Landour is a very low-key place that was termed “The Queen of the Hills” in the British Raj. It is a little quaint town a few kilometres from Mussoorie in the Himalayas. Landour is the retirement home to many great personalities and thinkers, like Ruskin Bond. This little town has bakeries and has preserved its charm from all the tourist influx. There are homestays that would provide a perfect escape and serenity amidst the overcrowding of every hill station.

Havelock Island

Havelock Islands is one of the islands in the blue waters of the Nicobar and Andamans. The island is the best alternative to Maldives and is a paradise for beach babies and water sports enthusiasts. The white sand and the bioluminescent attract tourists from all over the world, and the most popular water sport is snorkelling. The tourism infrastructure is exceptional here, and Port Blair is connected to all major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. As an Indian, Havelock Island is a must-visit because of the marine life and clear waters this place has to offer.

Auli, Uttrakhand

Auli is a picture-perfect town originally developed as a paramilitary base and later became famous as a tourist skiing destination. Auli hosts all sorts of snow adventure events and is surrounded by oak trees and coniferous forests. It offers panoramic views of several high peaks of the Himalayas, including the second-highest peak- Nanda Devi in the country. Auli is located in the Chamoli district and has several boutique resorts with heated flooring to keep you warm even in freezing temperatures. It’s a perfect place to enjoy a family trip in the upcoming holiday season.
