Von der Leyen had announced this visit at Davos on January 21, mentioning that a new strategic agenda with India would be presented at the upcoming EU-India Summit.

India has been a strategic partner of the EU since 2004, with 2022 marking the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

The EU-India collaboration from 2020 to 2025 is guided by the Strategic Partnership Roadmap, the EU Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, and the Global Gateway Strategy, with over 50 sectorial dialogues.
