Assassin’s Creed (AC) is a historical action-based game series and media franchise published by Ubisoft. The initial development of this game was conducted by Ubisoft Montreal using the game engine, which is known as Anvil, which has added advanced derivatives. The video game development team of Ubisoft, in order to remain at a significant height in the gaming world, developed “Assassin’s Creed” games which generally portrays a fictional millennia-ancient struggle between the order of Assassins who are generally fighting for free will and peace as well as knights Templars who were tends to desire peace via control and dominance over the land.

The “Assassin’s Creed” series highlights science fiction and historical fiction alongside functional characters entangled with real-world historical figures and events. In most of the “Assassin’s Creed” games, game enthusiasts control a historical fictional character, which also indicates the historical fiction surrounded by Templar and Assassin. The predecessor of the AC games is widely known as the “Prince of Persia” series, as the gameplay style has been inherited from this game, which shaped the destiny of the modern-day Assassin’s Creed franchise. The initial Assassins Creed was launched in November 2007 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation and in 2008 this game was available for Microsoft Windows users. This game highlights historical evidence of the Holy Land, particularly the Acre, Jerusalem, Damascus and Masyaf, which enables players to witness the late 12th century. The shoreline of this game depicts two time periods: one set during the recent day, Desmond Miles, and another one set in 1191, which indicates his ancestor “Altair Ibn La Ahad”, a crucial member of “The Assassin Order” during the time of third Crusade.

The actual storyline of the initial Assassin’s Creed game begins with the abduction of Desmond Miles by a pharmaceutical business known as Abstergo Industries, which is led by Dr. Warren Vidic. He is reconnoitring the Altair’s memories via a machine known as the Animus that enables Desmond to connect with his ancestor’s DNA.

The main aim of Abstergo is to find powerful artefacts which are recognized as pieces of Eden for which the Assassins and Templars have fought over the centuries. Through assessing the DNA of Altair and his memory, the entire story of this game adds new dimeson to the open world gaming in which the entire storyline has come to an end, which indicates the creed which is formed by Altair Ibn La Ahad enables him to retrieve Piece of Eden from Templar.

The first Assassin’s Creed was the catalyst which reshaped the destiny of each and every AC game in; which the storyline and fictional historical character have enabled players to explore the beauty of these games, which have evolved over the years in terms of graphics, character modelling and combat style. On the other hand, the initial Assassin’s Creed games are thoroughly based on stealth machines, such as killing antagonists in crowded areas, along with counterattack and self-defence mechanisms.

However, the side quest aspect of this game has encountered constant criticism from players as most of such missions are basically very repetitive, which has diminished the attractiveness of Assassin’s Creed games. After the launch of AC Origins, the combat style has changed drastically as this game introduces an action role-playing game (RPG), which introduces new features to the “Assassin’s Creed” game, including a hitbox-based combat system. These gameplay mechanics still followed within new Assassin’s Creed games, which blurring the immersive stealth and combat system mechanics of past Assassin’s Creed’s besides narratives along with storylines which have become major controversy in modern times.  

What controversies and criticisms did the Assassin’s Creed franchise recently face?

Ubisoft Quebec has finally announced its long-anticipated Assassin’s Creed game set in feudal Japan, recognized as Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This game will include two protagonists: a Samaria based on the black samurai Yasuke, who is not native to this land, and a Ninja known as Naoe. However, a major controversy that surrounded the initial trailer of this game, which highlights the rich history of feudal Japan, revolved around Yasuke, who is not native to this land. The development team of this game decided to focus on Naoe and Yasuke, a well-known historical figure who fought against the Portuguese, which threatened Japan decades ago.

However, there are plenty of questions as well as speculations surrounding the real-life inspiration which facilitates creativity, particularly in Yasuke, who was a black samurai not native to Japan. However, the development team of “Assassin’s Creed” Shadows revealed that they chose Yasuke because it will allow players to visualize and discover the rich history of feudal Japan, which could elevate the incisiveness and likewise could also improve the immersive stealth and combat experience.

On the other hand, historical accuracy is one of the focal points of “Assassin’s Creed” games, which has faced constant criticism from gamers. How “Assassin’s Creed Shadows will change the perception of gamers by considering feudal Japan is the biggest question which yet to be unfolded and revealed after the launch of this game.
