Kardashev Scale
The “Kardashev Scale” is a way of evaluating a civilization based on technological advancement and the capability of harnessing energy from a cosmic scale. The intelligence has included developing a classification system, which might provide a thorough outlook towards advanced Civilization and the existence of intelligent life forms based on the energy they can utilize and harness. The concept of Kardashev Scale was proposed by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev to establish the possibility of differentiating civilizations based on their competency to harness energy from various stages.

According to Nikolai Kardashev, advanced Civilization is mainly categorized into three stages. Type 1 indicates the ability of a civilization whose technological competency is close to the level that humans are achieving, but it is slightly higher in comparison to human’s technological and energy utilization competency. On the other hand, type II civilization has the capability to harness the energy radiated by stars, and Type III highlights the capability of Civilization towards utilizing and harnessing energy on the comic scale of its own galaxy.
As of now, humanity is considered a Type 0 civilization, which means we are still unable to harness and utilize all of the energy available on our planet. One advantage of Kardashev’s scale is that it focuses on a civilization’s detectability by humans rather than its energy utilization and technological competency, which might open new avenues for scientists to find any trace of advanced Civilization in the universe.
Renowned physicist Carl Sagan argues that Kardashev’s categories signified too immense of leaps in energy consumption and suggests it should divided into small segments like Type 1.1, Type 1.2 and so on. However, the Kardashev Scale is mostly divided into three categories: Type 1, Type II and Type III, highlighting the energy-harnessing competency of a Civilization.
It is worth pointing out that our overall ability to consume of entire energy of the planet besides the availability of potential sources of energy. In the context of data and information available Kardashev Scale does not go further than Type III civilization, but new types have been proposed in recent times, including Type 0, Type IV, Type V and Type VI. The proposed stages suggest that the utilization and consumption of energy have increased exponentially. Along with these alterations, the Civilization will undergo a thermodynamic and physical transformation..
Type 1: Planetary Civilization
According to the perception of Nikolai Kardashev (Kardashev Scale), Type I civilization is also recognized as a planetary civilization, which signifies their capability of harnessing and utilizing all available energy that comes from nearby stars. The amount of energy that Type 1 civilization is capable of harnessing is comparable to about 10^16 watts. Famous astrophysicist Carl Sagan, concerning this specific aspect, defined intermediate values which are not generally considered in the Kardashev Scale by incorporating commonly utilized values for the energy consumption level of type I I0^16, Type II 10^16 and type III 10^ 26. As of now, we are falling under the Type 0.73 Civilization, which is still far behind the Type I Civilization.
Type 1I: Stellar Civilization
The Kardashev Scale also provide an in-depth description of Type II civilization, which indicates the capability of a civilization towards control over its own solar system, and they might be capable of harnessing the energy that is compatible with a single star. This type of Civilization might effectively be able to extract fusion energy and resources from stars. Their technological and innovation competency is theoretically far beyond the technological competency of humans, and they might have the capability of interstellar travel, stellar engineering, and interstellar communication.
Type II Civilization is effective in terms of harnessing and channeling the entire radiation output of its star and energy consumption would then be relative to the luminosity of the sun, which is about 4 ×10^33 erg/ sec. This type of Civilization has provided a thorough understanding of the Dyson Sphere, a Hypothetical Megastructure that could be a source of energy for Type II Civilization.
Type 1II: Galactic Civilization
There could be a Civilization that could be capable of harnessing the entire energy of a galaxy, which is equivalent to 4×10^44 erg/ sec. Like Type II Civilization, Type III might be capable of utilizing and harness energy, however, on a galactic scale. This sort of Civilization could be competent in terms of creating a structure that might facilitate Galaxy Lifting, which could be done to counter cosmic expansion as well as keep certain interstellar objects closed together for acquiring energy to meet its requirements.
The problem with the Kardashev scale is it's based on the assumption that civilizations only ever increase their energy usage as they become more advanced.
But if there were an alien civilization that digitized all of their minds and uploaded them into a virtual reality, that… pic.twitter.com/sIExbnsoiu
