By Team Unread Why

Vivo, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has released its India Impact Report 2023 in the context of completing the tenth year of business operation in the country with Vivo India. This particular report sheds light on the contributions of Vivo in the mobile ecosystem of India, including its emphasis on the formation of employment opportunities, local manufacturing and supporting retail partners. Nevertheless, moving forward to the next decade, the leading mobile company has decided to provide more emphasis on localisation and increasing exports with rational use of AI in their smartphones.

A decade of successful journey in India

Since marking its footprint in the Indian market in 2014, Vivo has become a prominent player in the second-largest smartphone market of the world by acquiring a substantial share. The Greater Noida manufacturing facility of the company has manufactured more than 150 million smartphones which leads to the significant contribution to the “Make in India” vision of the Indian government.

With respect to the tenth-year milestone of Vivo in India, Jerome Chen, the CEO of Vivo India, has said, “It gives me immense pleasure to reflect on our incredible journey together as we enter our tenth year in the Indian market. In 2014, we embarked on a transformative journey to redefine the smartphone experience and create value in the mobile ecosystem in India. Today, I am proud to say that our brand has not just thrived over the years but is contributing to the canvas of change in India’s technological landscape.”

Changing focus

As per the message from the CEO of Vivo India, the company has emphasised the consolidation and growth in the intensely competitive Indian smartphone market in the past decade. However, for the next decade, Vivo has recognised the importance of adapting to the shifting business landscape of the Indian market.

Hence, Vivo in India has decided to emphasise localising several areas, which includes local value chain, manufacturing and distribution, as well as boost exports of “Made in India” smartphones. According to Chen for Vivo in India, “The next decade holds great promise for India as it emerges as a powerhouse of global economic growth. In alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision of establishing India as a primary export hub, we have witnessed the progress and growth of the nation and have contributed by exporting smartphones worth around ₹ 400 crore.”
