It has been 13 years since the release of the movie, and it is a classic cult favorite. Rockstar being ahead of time has roped in Gen-Z viewers as well. The millennials are also rushing to soak themselves in the magic and nostalgia of this iconic and once in a lifetime of movie.

Away… beyond all concepts of right and wrongdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”

About the Movie

An ordinary Delhi boy, Janardhan, studying at Delhi University has a dream of becoming a rock star. The plot of the movie takes a turn when Janardhan realizes that one commonality among all Rockstars is that they all have experienced some heartbreak and tragedy in their lives. In an attempt to crack this philosophy, he tries to get his heart broken by the most eligible girl in his college, Heer Kaur. Fate is tricky and little does Janardhan know that getting his heart broken by his Juliet will put him in a path of self-destruction and self-ambush.

Rockstar makes people fall in love. Fall out of love. Worship love. At times, even hate it. Hearts get broken when Nadaan Parindey starts playing. There is a certain bitterness and anguish that can be felt while Sadda Haq plays. Nations come together as one, and the helpless meet the hopeful during Kun Faya Kun.

Rockstar hears screams and resonates screams in the best possible way. It’s a true masterpiece and an example of how deep cinema pieces are and their power in all glory. It is an ethereal experience. Rockstar makes you realize that no genius comes without madness, and there is no happiness that doesn’t come with pain. Yet, it is a one-of-a-kind love saga that India comes back to every time.

Janardhan later changes his name to Jordan. Earlier in the movie, he wanted to be heartbroken to become a successful musician, but later, when he gets his heart broken, he doesn’t care about the music anymore. The strong underlying message of the movie is that a broken heart may make you a great artist, but the misery will make you leave your art and the world associated with it.

The most iconic scene in the movie is when he is on stage and starts humming this song. He doesn’t care about himself, his body, his life, or his career. All he wishes is that his eyes remain healthy as he holds on to the hope of looking at his loved one for the final time.

Netizens have claimed that the song “kun faya kun” is not a song for them. It is their refuge and their safe space. The song instils hope and calms nerves as what is meant to be, and it will be. It’s a source of courage and hope to a whole generation of people. It’s a warm hug in this fast-paced life where nothing seems to be constant.

Imtiaz Ali as a Director

The director, Imtiaz Ali, is known for his film direction and is considered to be one of the finest directors in the country. His films like Jab We Met and Highway have smashed all records at the box office. He is the most awaited director and his films are considered to be mega blockbusters way before they are even released. Their most recent movie is “Chamkila” starring Diljit Dosanjh on Netflix. Amar Singh Chamkila was in the news for several weeks for being the best biography ever made in India.

Upon its release in 2013, Rockstar was a semi-hit in India, with only 70 crores domestically and 110 crores internationally at the box office. Over time, the music of the movie has been laid down in history as the best album by many critics. The song “Kun Faya Kun” is the spiritual anthem of the young and the millennials as well. The movie has turned into an urban legend of love and all the darker emotions associated with it.
