Congress is already challenging several other legislative changes in the Supreme Court, including CAA 2019 and RTI Act amendments.

Parliament approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill early Friday after a 13-hour debate in Rajya Sabha.

The bill passed with 128 members voting in favor and 95 opposing in Rajya Sabha, while Lok Sabha saw 288 supporting and 232 against.

Parliament also approved the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, 2025, with both houses giving their assent.

Opposition INDIA bloc parties criticized the bill as "unconstitutional" and "anti-Muslim" during the debate.

Critics claimed the legislation aims to take over Muslim properties and hand them to corporations.

Multiple opposition parties including Congress, TMC, DMK, AAP, Shiv Sena (UBT), SP, RJD, and Left parties alleged mala fide intentions behind the bill.

Some opposition members demanded complete withdrawal of the contentious legislation.
