Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla extended the deadline for surrendering looted and illegal arms until March 6, responding to requests from both hill and valley communities.

The original seven-day deadline announced on February 20 expired on Thursday before the extension was granted.

Governor Bhalla assured that no punitive action would be taken against those who surrender weapons within the extended period.

The Governor emphasized this is the "last opportunity" for everyone to contribute to peace and communal harmony in the troubled state.

During the initial seven-day surrender period, more than 300 weapons were turned in, primarily from valley districts.

The weapons being sought include those looted from security forces as well as other illegally held firearms.
