Agustin Escobar, a top Siemens executive, and his family tragically died in a helicopter crash in the Hudson River on Thursday while on a sightseeing trip in New York City.

The crash also claimed the lives of his wife, Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children aged 4, 5, and 11. The pilot, whose identity is not yet known, also died in the incident.

The New York City Fire Department received a call at 3:15 pm about a Bell 306 helicopter that crashed into the river along Manhattan. Mayor Eric Adams later confirmed all six people onboard were killed.

Agustin Escobar was the CEO of Siemens' Spanish division and a well-respected leader in the company, having worked at Siemens for over 27 years in various roles.

Escobar studied Electrical Industrial Engineering at Universidad Pontificia Comillas and completed his MBA from Universidad de Alcala in 2002, followed by an Executive MBA in Business Administration.

He joined Siemens in 1998 and held key positions in sales and project management, eventually leading multiple business units, earning Siemens Country Awards throughout his career.

Escobar contributed to electric car infrastructure projects across Southwest Europe and later handled international business development in North America and managed factories in Bogota, Colombia.

In 2016, his division was named Siemens' best-performing business worldwide, a testament to his leadership and strategic vision.

Escobar returned to Spain in 2018 to become CEO of Siemens Rail Automation SAU and Siemens Mobility SLU, managing major rail projects with over 1,000 employees.

From 2019 to 2024, Escobar was the CEO of Siemens Mobility for Southwest Europe, overseeing operations across Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, and parts of Africa.
