Political Career of the Actor

The 60-year-old Shiv Sena leader who joined the Eknath Shinde-led faction in March 2024, just before the Lok Sabha Election, is not a new entrant to the dynamic world of politics. In fact, his entry to Shiv Sena marks his re-entry to politics and a clear change of stance after a 14-year-old break. While quitting politics, he confessed back then the decision to join politics was his biggest mistake, and he clearly regretted it. But after 14 years of break from active politics, which he now terms as ‘vanvaas’ (exile), his induction into the Shiv Sena faction supported by BJP led many to question his changing political stance.

The actor joined Congress in 2004 and remained active in politics till 2009 before withdrawing himself completely. The year 2004 was remarkable in his political career as he had fought and won the election on a Congress ticket from Mumbai North in the same year. He was elected a Member of Parliament after defeating a BJP veteran, Ram Naik, who was his chief opponent.
