The real village shares various similarities with its film counterpart. Meanwhile, the concept of the demon Hastar was completely fictional and in real life there is no connection of this mythological demon with this village. However, according to the local beliefs, there is a ghost who is similar to Hatsar, who often blesses people with wealth but, in this process, takes away their peace. Besides that, alongside the wealth, a curse also comes, which passes on to future generations.

Just like in the film, the real village actually exists in the Mahasratha region. It is located on the banks of the Jagbudi River in the Khed Taluka area, which is located in the Ratnagiri district of the Konkan division of Maharashtra. The village is surrounded by Sahyardi Hills, are section of the Western Ghats, which also makes this place an ideal place when it comes on the aspect of trekking and hiking. The connection of Tumbbad to the Maratha empire

The village also played a significant role during the Maratha era when it was a trade center as this village worked as a trade route between Konkan and Deccan regions. By which the merchants used to conduct trade in various Southern regions, which also significantly helped the Maratha Empire to boost itself in the economic aspect. So in this process, it can be seen that the particular place has a significant contribution to the Maratha Empire in this process in general.

About the film

Tumbbad was a 2018 film that was directed by Rahi Anil Barve. The story was written by  Mitesh Shah, Adesh Prasad, Barve and Anand Gandhi. The film was Produced by Sohum Shah, Anand L Rai, Mukesh Shah and Amita Shah. Tumbbad starred Sohum Shah in the titular role of Vinayak Rao.

The film takes place in India, specifically in the Maharashtra region from the 1920s to 1947; it tells about Vinayak and his young brother quest to search for a hidden 18^th-century treasure in the village, which is also connected with a mythological demon. This film went on production for nearly six years due to Barve and Shah were repeatedly not pleased with the final cuts.

This film was released on 12 October 2018 and immediately gained massive praise from critics and fans due to its storytelling, design and editing. The film also won various awards in this process, which have been stated below :
